The Ugly Facts of Life About Being a Petroleum Trader

Anyone who's gotten involved in the inevitable daisy chains that are part of the online international commodity "trading" business has learned a new meaning of the term "dead end."

The fact is (and this is learned from real oil traders who know from experience) that most of these "deals" are just fake, plain and simple.

Thanks to the Internet, these days some phony-baloney oil brokers even have their own websites and call themselves petroleum suppliers or petroleum companies even though they may not have completed a single real oil trade transaction in their lives. Why do they keep doing it?

I honestly don't know. The sad thing is these traders' persistence could be put to good use if they ever took the time to actually learn about the business. And don't think it's only the unschooled who fall victim to these daisy chains. Many lawyers, MBAs and educated men and women who should know better are frequently sucked in too.

When real petroleum companies deal with real refiners in foreign countries, the standard procedure is that the seller makes a firm offer to the buyer - subject to whatever he needs done - and the buyer then takes a look at the offer and says either we've got a deal or we don't.

Simple. It's just like any other trade transaction in that regard. Too many buzzwords and too many qualifiers usually mean you should stay clear. And contacts who are actively seeking banking information before any discussion of product are usually non-players.

What about discounts? Real traders know there's no discount on orders whether it's a big deal or a small deal but the "play traders" believe that if the deal is bigger, there should be a bigger discount. This is another example of not knowing the industry.

Instead of looking for suppliers of huge amounts of oil in its various forms, the real buyers know that no single supplier can come up with one million barrels a month (an amount frequently tossed around) because the refining capability just isn't there.

What about someone fronting for a rich Saudi sheik?

Fat chance, say the real traders. In the case of Saudi Arabia, there are only two legitimate organizations that sell oil on behalf of the country or an oil consortium. Someone who says he's selling on behalf of a Saudi sheik is just, well, full of sheik!

And if they start talking about millions of barrels per month it's almost certainly not real unless they're talking about crude oil.

Remember, a broker's entire job is to help a petroleum company's trading department find or sell oil and related products so that he will receive a commission when the deal comes together. Will you get paid? That's always an issue for export intermediaries but it can be especially tricky in the oil business.

The fact is that most oil companies -- and especially the big ones -- have traders in their marketing departments who operate honestly and fulfill obligations to brokers. But there are some independent and smaller companies who treat brokers shabbily and their reputations are widely known - another reason to get smart on the oil business before you dive in.

Surprisingly, you will probably find that many of the bigger oil trading companies will not only accept your services but may also provide advice and assistance.

So what's the bottom line?

Like I said before, it ain't easy. And you've got to know what you're doing. The fact is, petroleum marketing is a dog-eat-dog business and if you're a broker, you'd better have the resilience and perseverance to work through the baloney and outright deceit which seems to attach itself to petroleum trading.

Frankly, unless you have contacts in or familiarity with the petroleum industry, I recommend you stay with small- and mid-sized product manufacturers who are not exporting their products. It may not be as exotic as trading in petroleum, but it works - and you can make some real money. If you insist on trading in the volatile petroleum industry, try to find someone who will mentor you on the ins and outs. This is probably the best way to make sure you don't get "burned" by oil.

Pros of Breakout Trading
Breakout trading has the potential for quick gains. When key price levels are exceeded it will trigger stop order which gives that initial burst. The key component of a valid breakout is that volume and price accompany the move. This will increase the odds of the trade continuing in the desired direction. Breakouts are also easy to identify. Most trading platforms provide methods for tracking volatile stocks and how close they are to their daily highs or lows.

Cons of Breakout Trading
Breakout trading is by far the most challenging form of day trading. For starters, the levels where trades are placed are the most obvious to everyone regardless of their trading style. Think about it, no matter what system you use on a daily basis, every day trading system factors in the highs and lows of the day. Secondly, the vast majority of intraday breakouts fail. This doesn't mean they don't head higher a day or two later, but if your day trading and there is no instant follow through, odds are you are in a losing trade. Day trading breakouts requires the most discipline as you have very little time to make the call as to whether you are wrong or right. The inability to pull the trigger fast and consistently will mount in to huge losses.

Scalp Trading Overview
Scalp trading is a day trading style where a trader looks to make small gains throughout the trading day. This day trading style suits people who love "action" in the market.

Pros of Scalp Trading
The obvious benefit of scalp trading is the fact you are looking for very little from the market. Another plus is that stop losses are very tight. This will allow the day trader to avoid the monthly "blunder" trade that we all have put on one time or another.

Cons of Scalp Trading
Scalp trading like any other form of trading requires discipline, but due to the large number of trades one will put on during the day, it requires an enormous amount of focus. This "all day focus" can make the trading day a tense situation and can lead to high anxiety for the trader. Also, people go into the business of trading for unlimited earning potential and the idea that you do not have to slave away at a desk all day. Well if you plan on scalp trading, kep a bottle next to your desk, because bathroom breaks are considered a luxury.

Counter Trading Overview
Counter trading is when a trader looks for a pivot point, waits for that pivot point to be tested and trades in the opposite direction. This type of trader has a personality where he or she enjoys going against the grain.

Pros of Counter Trading
Counter trading has a high success rate for day trading. Ask any seasoned trader and they will tell you that intraday trading is nothing more than constant head fakes and lies. So, the counter trader is already up in the odds department, because they are going against what the market is telling them. Another plus for counter trading is that when the market fails it often fails hard. Day traders who are able to play morning reversals can make a great living only trading the first hour of the day.

Cons of Counter Trading
While counter trading has a high win percentage, the losers can bring destruction to an account. Even if you win on 4 counter trades, if you do not cut the loser fast, a breakout could run away from you in a hurry. Another downside to trading counter is the next pivot level is too far from your entry, so you will have to set some arbitrary stop limit. Since your stop is not based on an actual price point on the stock, it could get hit quite often. Lastly, setting your price target is also a challenge. Stocks will often appear to make a double top, only to change course just as fast and reclaim the recent highs.

Trend Following Overview
When most people think of trend following, the first thing that comes to mind is a long-term hold buy and hold strategy like the Turtle System. Believe it or not, there are day traders who utilize trend trading systems. The basic method is to look for stocks that are up big in the news and then buy the pullback on these stocks after the first reaction in the morning. Lastly, the trader will place a longer moving average (i.e. 20) and sell the stock if it breaks the line.

Pros of Trend Trading
Trend trading allows the trader to ride a stock for big gains. The day trader will have a limited number of stocks to trade per day, so the commissions are low for this kind of day trading style.

Cons of Trend Trading
If every trader was able to determine which stocks are going to trend all day, there would be a new millionaire created every 30 minutes. No one knows at 10 am, which stocks are going to trend all day long. This means that at best, a trend following day trader can hope to be right 20% of the time. While this trader could still make a killing with such a low win rate there are very few traders that can stick to their trading plan with such a low win rate.

Every trader is responsible for his or her success. Day trading can be a great money maker, but without a sound trading plan it can push you to your mental limits. The first step in becoming a successful day trader, you have to determine which style of trading best suits your personality.

Forex Trading Strategy - A Simple System For Triple Digit Gains

The strategy is based on trading breakouts and if you want to win at forex understand this fact:

Most major trends start and continue from new market highs or lows and this is the way to trade forex. Traders who always wait for the pullback and who want to try and get in at a better price MISS The moves.

Most traders simply cannot psychologically buy breakouts but if you can then you can make huge gains. Of course prices don't follow through on every breakout and you have to be choosy.

So what is a good Breakout?

Generally the minimum amount of tests of the level is two - but the more tests the better and the more time periods and the wider they are spaced apart the better.

You are looking for levels the market considers important because, when they break they are the breaks that continue, as stops are hit and fresh positions kick in accelerating the move. If everyone thinks a level should hold and it breaks, it's probably a good one!

Do I just buy the breakout Then?

No you don't.

You must confirm the breakout and that price momentum is accelerating through the level. For this you need some momentum indicators. We have discussed these fully in our other articles - but two great ones, you can learn in about 30 minutes are - the stochastic and the RSI.

What About Stops?

Simple - the stop is directly under the level that has broken.

How do I take Profits?

This is really the key - you must NOT Put your stop to close. If the level has broken, give the market room to breathe and trail your stop up, outside of normal market volatility.

A good breakout can give you thousands in profit and you need to be patient and keep your stop back and accept short term price swings against you. These big breaks can last for many weeks or even months and you want to milk the trend for all its worth.

What Amount of Profit can I earn?

I know numerous traders who make 100% or more annually trading selective breakouts and you can too. The key is to be patient and only trade the big breaks.

You don't need to trade often to make a lot of money, just high odds trades.

How Long Does it Take Daily?

You can spend around 30 minutes a day, trading this way with your forex trading strategy and then go and do something else. You only need to check the prices once or twice a day and that's it.

As long as markets trend breakout trading will work.

You can try as hard as you want to learn methods and systems but you won't win because the logic is dumb. You cannot predict what millions of traders will do in a day and all volatility is random.

If volatility is random, you can't get the odds on your side and you can't win.

2. Forex Scalping

This is simply a dumber version of day trading instead of judging within a day the time periods can be minutes! Steer clear.

3. Scientific Theories of Prediction

The logic here is that human nature is constant so we can predict what humans will do with scientific accuracy.

There is a huge industry in selling the secrets of such legends as Fibonacci, Gann and Elliot - but leaving aside they made no money with their theories, it's obviously not true...

If markets moved to a scientific theory, we would all know the price in advance and there would be no market - pretty obvious really.

Leave these theories to the far out investment community, the nave and lazy traders and see forex for what it is a game of odds.

4. Don't Learn a Complicated System!

Many traders are very clever and try and use there brain to build complicated systems.

They normally fail, because in forex you need to keep your system simple there is no link between complexity and success.

Simple systems work best, because they have fewer elements to break and are more robust.

You get judged on only one criteria in forex trading and that's your market timing and the accuracy of your trading signal - that's it, and to be accurate you don't need to be complex.

5. Learn Constantly

I read all the time you have to keep a log of your trades and study each losing trade and learn from your losses. What for?

If you forex trading system is logical, then what do learn from a loss?

You lost!

Big deal, losses are part of the game. Once you have a system you are happy with, you simply need to apply it with discipline and if you want to keep learning, you will end up chasing your tail, in search of the perfect system that doesn't exist.

I use the same forex trading strategy, I learned back in 1988 and have never changed it.

Sure, it isn't perfect but it makes money long term and that' the aim of the game.

When you come to trade your system, make sure that you have enough cash forget trading with $50 d and get a reasonable amount so you have staying power. $500 - 1,000 is a bare minimum and preferably $5,000.

Do not over leverage, take it gently to start, forget about 200:1 leverage and start at 10.

You are in this for the long run and you need to preserve equity and build your base.

Once your system is set you are ready to roll, don't believe all the people who say you should try and improve their system, or keep journals of your losses its complete waste of time.

You are going to lose, that's trading and the perfect system doesn't exist.

Psychology is a very serious aspect of our lives.

How much really is important for trading? With one word: very! Not only it affects all our decisions and mood but it could lead us to extreme situations. The reason I am writing this article today is because it is my nominal celebration and one of great celebrations for Christians who are Orthodox like me.

So as I went early in the morning to the church a lady who knows me as she was a long time ago one of my family tenants gave me to my surprise a rose! A move so sincere and kind that surely made my day a whole lot happier! Will I trade today? Probably not because I cannot get concentrated due to phone calls. But do I feel inside me ready from all aspects to trade? Did I say all aspects? What are those? At least the most important ones.

Let's make a list:

1. I do not feel sad, upset, angry, furious, and anxious, disappointed with any issue of my life.

2. I do not have to rush anything because I have a strict plan and I follow it so if no trade comes up any trade.

3. I am concerned with a topic that could cause me either overjoyed or instantly a hunch and will make a wrong trade, a silly one.

4. I do not feel pain or are sick from whatever reason

5. I do not have to prove anything! Not to myself not to my family, friends.Trading is not about self-esteem or pride, it is about making sound decisions that have great probabilities of making money.

6. I have a written goal to accomplish, a small or large payment to make and expenses that require immediate cash. I feel like being haunted by my potential debt and need to repay it as soon as possible.

7. My mind is not focused lately. I deal with a lot of things and have many priorities which cause me to be nervous and have plenty of stress.

The list is endless. But our life unfortunately and time is limited. And precious. We all need a balanced life. The key to success is to try to be happy and live each day and moment. If we are happy we can accomplish a plethora of things. At the end it is all about our emotions. Remember the old song "Don't Worry, Be Happy?" Sure happiness is a powerful thing. And a great ingredient to our balanced life. So if we are to trade we must feel confident that we are in a mood to do so. If not we would better stay out of the markets as long as it takes. I want to share with you some forex trading advice that will work to help you become a better trader. This business is new and exciting and as you grow as a trader you'll become more profitable.

When should I be trading?

As simple as this may sound, trade when everyone else is trading. I'm not telling you to follow the crowd, but this is a better because there are so many people trading that no one business or bank can manipulate a currency. What is often experienced in low volume times are big banks making these huge trades that end up causing a currency to act differently. This doesn't put you in any advantage, you just have to fall to the mercy of a bank. Stick with the busy times.

What should I watch on the news?

As cliche as it would seem, business networks. CNBC or BNN, whatever your country offers you. The reason is that economic news is released everyday, and it's usually scheduled in the morning. You should be watching this because currencies tend to follow economic news. When things are going good, so is the currency. When things are going bad, so is the currency. Pay particular attention to interest rate changes by the Federal Reserve. These interest rate changes are the central banks way of changing the supply of money in the economy.

This is my forex trading advice that works. Just try to incorporate this all into a daily routine. Keeping it as a routine makes much easier to apply and you'll start acting without thinking or pressuring yourself to do it.

Moving Averages - Traders Using Them For Bigger Profits in Forex

Moving averages are a simple tool that any forex trader should use and here we will look at how to use them correctly in your forex trading strategy for bigger profits.

Let's first look at what they are the logic behind them and the best time periods to use.

1. Moving Averages Aims and Definitions

Moving averages come in various forms, but they all have the same aim:

To help traders identify trends smoothing out the day-to-day price fluctuations and show the average price over a set period time.

The calculation is simple:

The closing price is simply added up and divided by the period of the moving average.

2. The Logic

Prices tend to rise slowly over the long term and short term extreme price spikes ten to be a short term reaction caused by the greed and fear of the participants. These price spikes never last long and prices return to the longer term average.

3. The Best Averages to Use

Moving averages are useless in short term time frames but very useful in longer time frames after years of trading these are the moving averages we find most effective.

The 40 day moving average

Can be used for identifying longer term trends and trailing stops can then be placed behind this level.

18 - 20 day moving averages

Can be used for getting into existing trends - this area in a strong pull trend is the ideal place to look to enter new positions.

Confirmation

You do not simply use a moving average to enter a position on a dip like many traders do this is hoping or guessing and you need to remember the moving average is giving you an idea of value and the trend and should not be used in isolation.

When see prices dip to a moving average or break one and you want to take a trading signal, make sure you confirm your trading signal with momentum indicators.

My Experiences With Forex Automated Trading Software

I got a couple of more requests from people recently wanting to hear my feelings and take on forex automated trading software. I suppose a lot of that is because anyone who has ever tried to make money online in any way shape or form can relate to it.

Two years ago I found myself in a situation where I was desperately looking for an opportunity for self employment. I'm sure you know that just from typing in making money online or work from home on any reputable search engine you'll get maybe more returns than any other phrase. This makes sense because anyone who enjoys their computer and using the internet would on top of that love to be able to make money doing it. Being a nave "noob" as they are called, I fell for a handful of get rich quick schemes before landing on the forex market.

This seemed to be a reputable oasis of sorts from the majority of scams and lemons out there. On top of that, the forex market especially attracted me because I admire any opportunity which you can take pride in. The more you put into learning about the forex market and studying the market, the better you will do. My college roommate's brother also clued me into it one night when I was visiting and told my former roommate and myself of how well he was doing.

My roommate who was himself in a similar situation in need of money and interested in working from home and I together decided that we would give the forex market a serious go. We checked out a number of books on the subject, traded bookmarks for learning sites we would come across, and basically turned preparing for this new career of ours into our day job. We both registered online for forex demo trading accounts and began trading with virtual money. We shared advice and "tips" with each other and after a couple of months we both found ourselves with a decent number of winning trades under our belts. We were ready to make the jump into real trading.

I threw down a few thousand dollars and eased into the market, making only small trades here and there. I was overly cautious at first, but I was gambling with my life savings at that point so I suppose it made sense. I slowly grew more confident and made a bit more money, at least enough to live on. I wasn't looking to get greedy and risk it all at that time.

It was about this time, several months in and about a year ago now that I heard about forex automated trading software. My friend and I asked his brother his advice and he admitted he had never tried it. Eager to have an accurate signal generator on my side to put my mind at ease, my friend and I decided to try the products which looked to be the best in the market. As they all offered money back guarantees, I figured what's the harm in testing them out. Well, a handful of these programs were utter garbage, sloppy interface and all. To make matters worse, it was a headache trying to get my money back on a couple of them.

We did, however, find a couple of winners in the pile of lemons. When I say winners I mean I nearly tripled my profits in my first month of implementing a couple of these programs. I ran their signal generators against each other and used that average to trade with and it worked like a charm. These programs offer free constant updates so they are constantly getting better.

Novice and expert traders agree that trading signal subscription services are useful trading tools. Using trading signals to help with buy and sell decisions eliminates some of the guesswork. However, the foreign exchange market (FOREX) is always unpredictable. Even the most skilled analysts sometimes make errors in judgment. Or, the market takes a turn so unexpected that analysts and traders are taken by surprise. Generally speaking, however, trading signals tend to produce more profits than losses.

"Trading signals" are simply advice and recommendations on buying or selling on FOREX. They are delivered electronically to traders when they open an account with a trading signal company. These signals are based on algorithms developed by experts. The algorithms analyze an individual trader's profile and criteria. They compare these against the current market status and prices. They then make buy and sell recommendations based on this data. The subscriber receives e-mail notifications outlining these recommendations.

Each buy and sell signal consists of two price data. They are "take profit" and "stop loss." Proprietary Day Trading Firms - Which Is The Best For You?

If you are considering day trading stocks with a proprietary trading firm then you need to know some numbers before selecting a firm. Having these figures will help you evaluate what is the best firm for you in the big picture.

Regulatory and exam fees: Will you pay for these? If so, which licenses are required? If you need to acquire additional licenses, factor in how much time you need to spend studying in order to obtain the necessary licenses. Add a value of the amount of trading revenues you will not be able to gain due to studying and having to wait for all of the paperwork to be completed.

Daily minimums: Do you have to make a minimum number of trades per day/month? Or do you have to trade a minimum number of shares per day/month?

Percentage payout: What is the payout that you will get? Is the payout percentage after commissions and fees, or will fees be subtracted after your percentage?

Software fees: Do you have to pay for software fees? Or are your software fees waived with a minimum number of trades/shares per month?

Commissions, ECN fees, and borrowing fees: What is the commission rate you will be charged? Are ECN fees absorbed or charged/rebated? Will you be assessed any borrowing fees for leverage?

With these figures create a spreadsheet listing these values. List the figures for each firm you are considering, and create some hypothetical scenarios for:

Number of trades for the month
Average number of shares per trade
Number of trades/shares per day
Average gross profit per day

Run the analysis for each firm you are considering. Once you have your hypothetical "take home" amount per month, you have a good idea of which firm will best serve your needs assuming all of the "intangibles" are comparable between the firms.

Research Is The Name Of The Game

I do most of my research after the day's trading has finished. Firstly I look for stocks that have performed well today and add them to my prospect list. This number varies from time to time but the average number can be as high as 50 or so.

The reason for so many prospects is because only a small percentage will eventually match my entry criteria. So because of this I am entering new names continually on a daily basis. There is no restriction to which sector they belong to either. They could be the banking or the mining sector, I try not to have favourites, but I must admit I find this hard to do at times.

I also keep an eye out for positive company announcements and also watch to see who is buying who in the substantial stock movements. Sometimes you can pick up on a takeover about to happen before the general market latches on to what is happening.

I have quite often just jumped on this stock for the ride, made my preset profit percentage and jumped off again. Not forgetting to put a stop loss in place in case the stock retreats as they quite often prone to do.

Another area that I like to keep an eye open for is when Directors are buying their own stock. This is a good indicator that they feel that the stock will be going upwards. I have never heard of a director buying their own stock to make a loss.

Like us they are out there to make a profit. They are a lot closer to the action than we are, sometimes they have knowledge that is weeks ahead of any news or company announcements that are likely to be made. Who else knows better how a company is performing?

I then check out my list of future prospects against my entry criteria. This is a step by step plan that I have devised over time. It works for me, but it is best that you have one that you are comfortable with. Another reason is that my criteria are quite strict and would possibly not suit the average trader.

Basically if any stock does not match up to this criteria then it is put onto the back burner for review later on. (In other words I am keeping a second list of potential stocks for later on. So you always have a list of prospects handy.)

With practice it is surprisingly how quickly you can look at a chart and see if the stock is a candidate or not. This way you can whittle the list down to 2 or 3stocks.How many stocks you invest in course depends on the amount of capital you have currently available for trading. So sometimes you may be restricted to just the one stock.

Quite often my funds are tied up and are not readily available; this is the case at the moment as I have been buying quality stocks at bargain basement prices. Even with these blue chip stocks, once my profit percentage is reached I sell them.

I do have a portfolio of select stocks that are paying healthy dividends. These are for the long term and I do not get concerned over the price fluctuations that are happening lately in the stock market.

When you do your research will ultimately depend on your work commitments or your other time constraints. It is really up to you as there are no hard and fast rules as to when you do your research.

The trick is to do it regularly until it becomes a habit, like riding a bicycle, the more practice you get the more proficient you become.

Don't Lose Money Enrolling in an E-Currency Trading System

Every day brings a new and more exciting way to make money online. If you believe the dozens of advertisements that bombard us everyday, all of us should be millionaires. Why aren't we? Because 95% of the offers to make you rich are pure nonsense.

The latest scheme involves an old idea made new again. In the late 1990's millions of people lost billions of dollars when they discovered the lure of fast, easy profits from day trading. The rebirth of that idea is E-currency trading. Quickly becoming the darling of the online scammers, there are multiple sites offering the perfect trading system to make you rich while you sleep. These schemes are also called Forex trading systems. Forex, of course, stands for trading in foreign currencies.

E-currency trading is not new. It is however, enjoying a new popularity as more and more programs are being offered for sale. These programs, which range in price from $300 to $800, promise to train the investor to make high profits by trading in the foreign exchange markets. As with most other scams, there is always some expert who will tell you which program is the real deal. Don't believe any of them!

According to the Wall Street Journal, the average individual who purchases one of these systems, loses about $15,000. A typical program promises that if you will invest $200 to $5000 in the system, you will make thousands of dollars in profit in just a few weeks. Of course, the more money you invest the faster you will become rich. It's not going to happen.

Prior to the availability of the internet as a trading portal, individuals could only trade in currency through banks or reputable brokerage firms. But with the use of the internet by individual to trade, there is very little control by government regulators. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is charged with the responsibility of regulating the currency trading industry. But it is difficult for them to find the online sites that are responsible for the majority of the fraud and responsible for the losses suffered by individual investors. In the last 5 years, the Commission has prosecuted about 80 cases on behalf of about 23,000 individual investors. Those investors lost over 350 million dollars.

Some of the so-called experts will tell you that there is an even better system for making money than an E-currency program. They will encourage you to join an arbitrage trading program. The wonderful difference is that you can buy this program for a mere $139.

Arbitrage is simply a financial word which means taking advantage of a price differential between two or more markets. E-currency trading is simply arbitrage of currency markets. They are the same thing. The scammers will tell you that arbitrage trading has been around forever, as if that makes it safe.

It has been around for years because banks and investment companies have professional traders who devote their full attention to trading foreign currencies. A few experts can arbitrage the foreign currency market for large gains. The individual is always under capitalized and could never compete with large financial institutions doing the same kind of trading.

The simple fact is that if you want to try E-currency trading or foreign exchange arbitrage, understand that it is a very high risk strategy. The only funds you should ever use for this kind of investment are funds that you can afford to lose.

There is one more consideration. Many of the early guru's of Forex or E-currency trading have been prosecuted and even gone to jail. If you are invited to join such a program and offered the opportunity to enroll others in the program, you may be putting yourself at risk of prosecution for fraud. Today I counted more than two dozen different Forex or E-currency trading sites to entice individual investors. Do yourself a favor. Stay very far away from all of them.

Sometimes you will hear the term "end of day trading". Needless to say, I took the term rather literally when I first came across it. Day trading is founded on the principle of using prices of stocks as they are at the end of each day's trading hours.

Generally, all trading activity takes place during any one day. Traders make their judgements based on the performance of the previous day's figures - or more often than not, a whole series of figures from a number of immediately preceding days. Either way, the measure of unit for the time scale is one day.

1. The factor that separates it from other methods is that there is no trading done after hours, or over the course of weeks or months. Until the advent of the internet and broadband in particular, only the full time traders in the business had any profound interest or knowledge in stock market trading. Small Caps are known as the lower end of town, and this is where some very good value trades can be made, because they have greater a chance for growth.

Large Caps can be safe investments, but often they are slow movers. Exceptions are when there is a mining boom and large mining companies are growing or some other industry is experiencing phenomenal growth. Meanwhile the other industries might be lagging for years and the companies fully capitalized or over capitalized. Unless you are using options, it is best to keep away from large caps, if you are looking to make serious money.

Trading Options provide excellent leverage on large caps. This is the way to make money on these stocks. Owning a share might cost you $40.00, but the option may be obtained for only $1.00. If the share moves up $4.00 and you sell the share, you will make very little because you will have to pay brokerage of the total value of the share and not the $400 profit on the 100 shares sold. On 100 options you would make 300% profit and only have to pay a small amount on each option purchased. The difference in outlay and profit is enormous.

I'm going to share with you some tips for trading forex the smart way. This is a great market place to get involved in because you are in the potential of making great sums of profit all from home. That's not to say it's easy, but you're given an opportunity to build your own wealth and not rely on your "boss" for it.

Demos: A lot of experts don't recommend this, but they have forgotten what it was like when they were new. As an expert trader making huge sums of money already, a demo account really isn't going to help you. If you're new or someone that isn't make that much profit a demo account can really help you get your head straight. The first thing it does is allow you to properly learn your trading platform for optimum use. Secondly, it allows you to develop those routines that lead up to trading. These routines are the things that make you the profits. Lastly, it allows you to test strategies out without the fear of losing your money.
Emotion: Emotion is your enemy in this business. You have to recognize what emotion is meant for. It is designed from primitive human caveman. Your emotions came out as a way of protecting you. You felt fear and anxiety as away of allowing yourself to survive. Those emotions aren't going to help you when you're trading.
Software: All the big trading firms and banks have software, so you should too. It can make the process of trading a lot easier and allow you to do more important work.

95% of traders lose money and that's a fact and it's also a fact that most of the so called conventional ideas about making money are dead wrong and cause traders to lose. Let's look at some conventional wisdom and why it's dead wrong...

1. Buy Low sell High is a Good Way to Trade

Not in forex trading it isn't - the best way to trade and catch the big moves is to buy breakouts to new market highs or lows. It's a fact that most major trends start from these.

Also if you try and buy bottoms and sell tops you are making the next mistake.

2. Predicting Forex Prices Works

No it doesn't. If you predict you're hoping or guessing and that won't get you far in life or forex trading.

Traders are obsessed with predicting exact tops and bottoms but its not possible so don't try and that leads to my next point...

3. The Markets Move to Science

This idea is loved by many traders but there is no science to market movement.

Why?

Because if they did, we would all know the price in advance and there would be no market.

Traders follow such "legends" as Gann Elliot and Fibonacci and think they know the code and lose. Markets are an odds game, nothing more than that so stop trying to be perfect and make some money.

4. Day Trading and Scalping Reduces Risk

Know it doesn't, it creates it and guarantees you will lose, as all short term moves are random in daily time frames - pretty obvious really - but many novice traders fall for this one.

5. Get a Forex Robot

Most of these are junk and have back tested simulations as track records and the market gives them a lesson in manners in the real world.

Don't fall for the hype check the track record which is normally a made up simulation.

6. Follow an expert

Traders never learn - the so called experts are in most cases not really experts at all - but even those that offer good advice the trader can't follow, because he cant go through a period of losses, without throwing the towel in because its not his track record and confidence and discipline crumbles.

7. Forex Trading is Easy

Most traders just think it's easy and of course its not - that's why 95% of traders fail. Sure the rewards are high - but it requires effort to make them.

8. Risk 2% Per Trade

This is just plain dumb.

If you don't risk much you wont make much and most traders in retail forex are trading small amounts so on $1,000 2% is $20.00, that wont make you much!

9. Diversify

Spread your risk is a commonly accepted wisdom but all it does is dilute profits and if you have a small account it's a total waste of time.

10. Technology can Help You Win

No it can't - think about it and remember 30 years ago 95% of traders lost and ratio is still the same today, despite all the advances in computers, software and communications.

So always remember forex should be simple and trying to be clever will just see you lose.

Forex trading offers an opportunity for the trader who accepts that he has to do it on his own and create his own rules and follow them with discipline. Anyone can learn forex and anyone can win and really its not the market that beats the trader, it's the trader who beats himself.
